June 12th 2010 - Under 13's at Wembley

On June 12th the Under 13 girls had the best treat of the season when they were invited down to Wembley to take part in 2 hours training on the Wembley turf. All the girls realised just how big a prize this was, an opportunity that they may never get the chance to do again. Fortunately it was an experience for all parents and siblings as well. The only proper way to get down there was by coach, so at 12 noon on the Saturday we got on the coach at Thrapston, The whole journey down was full of excitement and that was just the parents, the girls got really excited when Wembley stadium first came into view when we neared the bottom of the M1.
Having misjudged the length of time it took to get there we got there an hour early, which was not so bad as it gave the girls time to calm down and have fun outside the ground, many pictures being taken around the statue of Sir Bobby Moore. The Sun newspaper turned up with their lion and more photos were taken.
3pm arrives and we finally make our way into the stadium, finally the parents get to sit in the posh seats and the girls are guided down to the tunnel area. There are 13 teams there in total and we are the only girls team. All the parents sit in the stand as the music starts over the tannoys and team by team they emerge from the tunnel running on to the pitch following their coaches for the session. An experience I cannot begin to explain only to say that I was that proud i felt I was going to burst, I cannot imagine how the girls felt, but what an experience.
For 2 hours they went and did different training exercises in different pitch areas whilst the parents looked on. The parents had plenty to keep them occupied trying to get their photos taken with the likes of Gary Barlow, Sharon Davies and Gail Porter.
At the end of the 2 hours they went up the Wembley steps to have photos taken with the FA Cup. One comment from one of the girls was it was amazing but we did’nt learn anything new, which really means we are teaching them the right moves already. But for 2 hours they all had a great time.
After that we had meal in the Bobby Moore suite and then watch the England v USA match live on large screens. Apart from watching a game live in the stadium I cannot think of a better place to watch the game, the atmosphere was electric and when they scored well the noise was amazing. We all know what happened next but nothing can spoil that day, we finally left the stadium at about 10pm and the whole journey home was full of laughter.
A great day to remember.
