Drayton Grange Tournament 11th June 2008
The Under 12's played in the Drayton Grange Tournament on Sunday which was only their second ever tournament.
Despite not having their first team keeper, due to an untimely illness, we turned out a team with one of our defenders taking on the keepers role. With a very keen positive attitude we held our first game in a goalless draw and after keeping a clean sheet for four matches we faced the tournament favourites and unfortunately conceded our first goal and lost 0-1.
We needed a draw on the last game to definitely qualify to the semi-finals. After going a goal down the team held their heads high and got the equalizer through an amazing goal by Jade, 3 minutes from time. However, we then conceded a penalty through a harsh decision for hand ball, after an awkward deflection. Gina (our stand in keeper) stood tall and proud in goal and produced an amazing penalty save, which lead to our qualification into the semi-finals.
The semi finals saw us having plenty of chances through Hannah and a couple from Jade and Emma. We defended well and Jade produced a spectacular winner to put us into the final against the favourites.
The final saw us create many chances and we put their defence under plenty of pressure,Emma, Jade and Hannah came close to scoring, but despite some very strong defensive play by Amy, Evie, Laura and Victoria we were defeated 0-2. The whole team left the field with their heads up and so proud of there achievement.
Well Done Girls......What a team....
